Time to Connect

Looking at a world-clock list of cities where friends and family reside, it fascinates me how we are all existing through time, through the different times, across the different spaces. The arbitrariness of time hits me in the face with the deep realization that the Earth is moving, and I could, for once, actually feel that in the depth of my existence, not only as a concept or a construct. I could almost ‘be’ there, in all those places, feeling a sunrise, a sunset, the winds of winter or the glazing sun of summer, the dusty deserts, the tireless oceans, the green mountains, the mighty waterfalls, the blue skies, the grey skies. All this is happening, right now.

That realisation made me think: How often do we get to see what’s not ‘there’, and truly TRULY connect with it? Some people call it faith. For me, it is the magic of the mind. Although I’m not referring to ‘real magic’ (I couldn’t resist the oxymoron!), the mind is more than capable of bringing images to life (and that is a kind of magic, perhaps). But where do these images of places other than ‘here’, come from? Particularly if you’ve NEVER been ‘there’!

We could go down an extensive analytical route here by referring to psychology and the media, for example, as possible explanations. But, you know, I’m not really interested in that right now, because this is not my point, nor my purpose. I, here, would like to question whether and to what extent we actively try to connect with each other at the deepest possible level.

Like many others, I go through my days, fulfilling certain tasks, ticking off boxes, day-dreaming of being elsewhere and doing something else, without actually opening up my mind’s world to the possibilities that others, friends or family at least, are experiencing a different or similar kind of day. Directing my attention to that not only frees my mind, but also makes me see MY day differently. Suddenly, with the mind’s imaginative and daring awareness of what is happening elsewhere now, I become part of this huge organism called Earth, with all life in it. I am a cell, a living cell, operating within the boundaries of my physical existence, but in ways that can stretch my energy to truly connect with other cells, ALL living cells, not only human ones.

When this happens, I can see that the time to connect is NOW. This ‘now’ may look, feel, smell, different to life in several locations on the Planet, but our collective consciousness, when activated, can transcend the differences, and can join the essence of what all life is, in the most beautiful life-form network we will ever know.

Who/What are you connecting with today?!
